Welcome:
Welcome to my website about saltwater fishing. It If you're going to be doing any ocean fishing, then you will want to get a saltwater fishing reel. These extra heavy duty reels are made to withstand the rigors of the elements that are associated with ocean fishing. Saltwater reels need to be larger to handle the extra line needed and must be stronger due to the size of the fish.
Nobody could land a 400+ pound blue marlin on your typical freshwater reel. It would be too small for the string size or the extra weight in the string casing. Saltwater fishing involves stronger line strength and larger spool to accommodate the line and yardage needed if the fish should run on you. I have fought marlin and salifish for in excess of two hours before landing them.
There are lot of different Saltwater reels to choose from. Your choice depends on three things: First, they type of fishing that you plan to be doing; second, the species of fish you want to catch; and finally, your budget. There are several types of saltwater reels.
Saltwater Fly Reels are for flyfishing. They look like their freshwater cousins, only larger. Saltwater fly reels sometimes require in excess of 300 yards of line. They are designed to handle more and heavier line, as well as to make long casts with much larger flies than those found in freshwater flyfishing. The best ones are made of high quality aluminium, and are anodized to prevent corrosion.
Saltwater spinning reels are used for spin casting. They are specially manufactured to resist the saltwater environment. They come in a variety of sizes. Because they are so durable and maintenance free, smaller ones can also be used for freshwater fishing.
Conventional reels are used for deep sea fishing. They are normally used for trolling artificial lures behind a boat. Some of these reels have features such as variable speed drag and gearing to help you reel in extreemly large fish. Some also are equipped with an electronic motor to help in that regard.
Baitcast reels are used to lob bait such as mackerel or sardines near other species of game fish. These reels are very durable and rust resistant. They also must be strong because more likely than not species such as marlin, dorado or sailfish will bite on the live bait. They must also be easy to cast so that you can put the bait where you want it.
